Power your racks!

The Mesa Fifty/Fifty is one the many rack power amps of the most prolific brand in that field. It is not a current model, the 50/50 being its replacement. This one had no problem but featured the mid notch and bass emphasis that has given this model a bad reputation.

The Fifty/Fifty is built to good standards and features a simple and effective design. The Lo Power mode actually lowers the phase splitter supply voltage, not the output valves, but it sounds pretty good. Modifying the unit into a "standard" power amp is not necessarily straightforward but it is simple enough. And adding a bias control is not superfluous but the printed circuit only allows one for the two pairs of output tubes, short of getting more involved in circuit modification. After all that work, well, it does its job nicely!
